Background:

Gary is a long-time Medford resident. He retired from Qwest (now CenturyLink), the local phone company, in 2002 where he served as community affairs manager for the Southern Oregon area for the last 13 years of this 32-year career. He then held the position of Foundation Director for the Rogue Valley Manor Foundation until 2006 when he assumed the position of Executive Director for ACCESS, the Community Action Agency of Jackson County. He retires from that position in 2011.

He graduated from Medford Senior High School where he played football and baseball. He attended Oregon State University and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Southern Oregon University and his MBA degree in marketing from University or Oregon.

Gary continues to be very involved in a variety of community activities throughout the Rogue Valley.

Accomplishments:

• President for 25 years of the Medford Youth Baseball Society, a local non-profit responsible for improvements to Miles Fields and for development of Harry & David Fields
• Raised over $2 million to make improvements to Miles Field which included a clubhouse, paving of the parking lot, and masonry block perimeter fence
• Negotiated an agreement with the City of Medford in 2004 to build the facility in US Cellular Park. The first baseball game was played at Harry & David Field March 2006
• Raised over $200,000 in 2006-07 to complete the press box building that housed concessions
• In 2007 negotiated a 10-year $357,500 naming rights to Harry & David Fields
• Raised over $600 thousand in 2012-2013 to complete seating for the stadium, built a grass berm seating area to construct a party deck
• Selected as 2010 First Citizen by Medford Chamber of Medford/Jackson County
• Selected as 2015 Sports Advocate of the Year by Southern Oregon Sports Commission
• Presented 2016 Southern Oregon University Distinguished Alumni Award
