Terry Maddox, Medford Sports Hall of FameBackground:

Terry grew up in the Rogue Valley, raised by parents Rupert and Zita Singler Maddox, the fifth of eight children. He was raised on a large farm West of Jacksonville. He loved baseball from early on and played baseball in Medford since fifth grade, attending Alex McDonald Camps. Terry was on the radar of professional scouts since his high school days. After high school Terry attended the University of Oregon and is one of the five First Team All-American in baseball at the U of O.

In 1975 at the age of 42, he began drawing and started “Pencil Art by Terry.” This led to a new career after retiring from teaching and coaching baseball. He remained active in the artist community for about 35 years appearing in numerous prestigious art shows, placing in the National Parks, “Art in the Parks Top 100.” On January 4, 2021, Terry passed away in the loving care of his family.

Accomplishments:

  • 1949-1952 played baseball at Medford High School
  • Pitched Medford High School to State in 1952
  • 1954-1957 played baseball at U of O.
  • Voted MVP in 1955.
  • Established a senior season record for the most wins and winning percentage (.875) leading the Ducks with a 2.8 ERA, capturing the Pac-8 N. Division title in 1955.
  • As a 3-time D-1 All-American, he had his best season in 1956, batting .330 average with 28 RBIs and was also a three time All Pac-8 pitcher/outfielder.
  • 1958-62′ a 4-year minor league career with the Salem Senators and the Eugene Emeralds.
  • 1966-75′ Springfield High school baseball coach.
  • Served as president of the State Baseball Coaches’ Association and inducted into U of O Hall of Fame in 2006 and into Springfield Hall of Fame in 2017.
