Harold "Swede" Anderson, Medford Sports Hall of FameHarold “Swede” Anderson was starting right halfback on the 1928 Medford High State Football team coached by Prink Callison. Many experts throughout the State of Oregon considered this particular team to be the finest high school football team ever assembled.

In Coach Callison’s 6 years in Medford, his teams recorded 40 wins, 1 loss and 1 tie, so to be a starter on this 1928 team, you had to be an extraordinary athlete. On every team of this caliber, there is always the unheralded “blocker” that made the offense function properly. This was Harold “Swede” Anderson. Quote from Art Perry, sportswriter for the Medford Mail Tribune, after the State Championship football game won by Medford 39 to O against Benson Tech. of Portland: “Plodding, hard hitting Anderson in his short, snappy drives, knocked anxious tacklers out of the road for the wriggling Melvin.”

In 1931 an All-Time, All-Star Medford High football team was selected by 10 Medford football fans. “Swede” was selected on this team for his ball carrying and devastating blocks. In later years he used his hard hitting and blocking tactics to advantage by following the Professional Wrestling circuit.
