Frank played football, basketball and baseball while attending Franklin High School in Portland, receiving All-City honors in the 3 sports. While attending Oregon State College, he played basketball and baseball, gaining All-Coast recognition in baseball.

Frank was an assistant in football and baseball at Medford Senior High for 35 years and head basketball coach for 29 of those years. His basketball teams had a record of 492 wins – 221 losses. They attended the state tournament 18 times, and were District Champion 11 times, 2nd 1O times, 3rd 5 times, and 4th 3 times.
