Delores Jean Snyder, Medford Sports Hall of FameDelores called “Dedo” by her close friends, has lived in Medford since her 1st year and started roller skating at the old “Rollarena” on South Pacific Highway, at the age of 5 years. Competition started after only one month one the skates. With the opening of the new Medford Skate on South Pacific Highway, Delores not only found improved skating conditions but a friend on Bob Fernandes, owner-manager, who has provided tremendous support.

She has placed at the Oregon State meets for the past 12 years in both figures and dance, winning many 1sts in the Junior and World Class events. At the regional, she qualified 9 out of 12 years, qualifying her to skate at the U.S Nationals, usually held in Nebraska or Texas. In the regionals she placed 1st four times 2nd four times and 3rd two times in both figures and dance.

Dedo’s most recent accomplishments were in the 1985 Regionals, placing 3rd in World Class figures and 1st in Junior dance with partner Jerry Hutchinson of Roseburg. The highest award in skating, GOLD MEDAL TEST, she achieved in Dance-1980 and figures-1985.

Delores considers her home rink Medford Skate, but her competitive rink is Skater’s Derby in Roseburg where she travels twice a week for lessons from her skate instructor, Diana Colby, and for Practice sessions with her dance partner Jerry.

Delores’s parents drive her to Roseburg twice a week for practice and she hoped to be able to publicly thank her whole family for the support given to allow her to participate. I am sure they are receiving their rewards every time this charming young lady puts on a pair of skates…and…as a Junior at Southern Oregon State College she carries a grade point average of 3.62.
