Craig Johnson, Medford Sports Hall of FameBackground:

Craig Johnson was born in Huntington Beach, CA and moved to Medford when he was 6 years old. After graduating from South Medford High School, he moved to New London, CT to attend the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. During this time, he helped lead the men’s basketball team to the Elite 8 of the Division III NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. After Graduation in 2009, Craig has continued service in various roles and locations within the Coast Guard. During this time. He has been a member of the All-Armed Forces Basketball Team three years. In 2010 he played a key role in helping the U.S team capture their first gold medal in the 47th Supreme Headquarters Allied Power Europe (SHAPE) Men’s International Basketball Tournament since 2004 by beating Lithuania 78-71 in the championship game.

Accomplishments:

  • South Medford senior year 1st team All-State, 1st team All-Tournament at the 4A Boys’ OSAA state tournament: Conference Player of the Year senior year: 1st team All-Conference.
  • Selected as member of 2013 and 2015 U.S. Armed Forces basketball team during International Basketball Tournament in Mons. Belgium.
  • 2013 member of the All-Navy team during Annual Tournament.
  • Selected as All-Navy Basketball team.
  • Selected as member of the All-Armed Forces team, played a key role in helping U.S. capture their 1st gold medal in the 47th Supreme Headquarters Allied Power Europe (SHAPE) Men’s International Basketball Tournament since 2004 by beating Lithuania 78-71 in the title game.
  • 1st team all NEWMAC Conference sophomore, junior, senior year
  • Johnson and the Bears won the NEWMAC Tournament championship Elite 8 of the Division 111 NCAA Tournament.
