Bryn Ritchie, Medford Sports Hall of FameBackground:

Bryn was born in Medford in 1979 and began playing soccer and other sports at a young age. By the time he entered South Medford High School as a freshman, he had played on several traveling soccer teams and an AAU basketball, competing all over the county. Bryn was a four-year varsity starter on the soccer team at South Medford, and for three years this team as nationally ranked. His senior year they won the State Championship in convincing fashion with a 5-0 victory, and Bryn was named Player of the Year in the state. Bryn then attended University of Washington on Scholarship and became a starter in his second game. He achieved many Pac-10 and All-American awards throughout the rest of his career at Washinton, which was perennial top 10 nationally ranked program. In 2002, Bryn was drafted by the Colorado, Rapids to play in the MLS. Hampered by multiple knee surgeries (beginning just before senior year as UW), he finished his soccer career by playing for the Portland Timbers for two years (2002-2003).

Accomplishments:

  • South Medford soccer team went to state all 4 years and won the state championship SR year
  • 4A Player of the Year
  • Member of the Olympic Development Program, training in San Diego 1997
  • 4-year starter for University of Washington
  • Selected as Rookie of the Year of Pac-10
  • First team Pac-10 and 2nd team All-American his junior year
  • Pac-10 first team, 3rd team All-American and National Scholar Athlete of the year his senior year
  • 2002 drafted by Colorado Avalanche MLS
  • 2003 career ending knee surgery
