Tosha Barnicoat Firestone
Background:
Tosha grew up in Medford, attending Kennedy Elementary, Hedrick, and North Medford. Tosha was raised by her mom Jo-Lynn Barnicoat. She has fond memories of pursuing her athletic dreams as well as an academic education, while working at Taco Bell, Golden Spike Pizzeria, and JCPenney’s in Medford.
Tosha is a speaker for Fellowship of Christian Athletes and has been for all her college and adult life. She is the owner and founder of Freak of Nature Fitness LLC, where she authorized two books to aid her in her ministry efforts of delivering hope and education regarding Faith, Fitness, Finance, and Nutrition.
Accomplishments:
- Lettered 4 years in volleyball, 2 years in basketball, and 2 years in track at North Medford.
- As a senior outside hitter, led the team in kills and digs, as her team compiles a 16-0 record, the best in school history.
- In 1996 Named MVP and best offensive player of the Black Tornado.
- In 1996 as a SR earned Conference Player of the Year, 1st All-Conference, and 1st Team All-State.
- As a freshman scholarship player at the University of Southern Mississippi, led the team in kills and double-double.
- In 1996 Voted MVP of her team garnering All-Conference honors, named All-Freshman Team Conference USA.
- In her final three years of competition, she was team captain, MVP of the team, leading the team in Kills and digs in 1997-98.
- In her junior year, 1998, she recorded her first career 30-30 with 31 kills and 33 digs.
- Named 1st Team All-Conference USA, exceeding over 1,000 Career kills and digs.
- In 2017 inducted into the Hall of Fame at University or Southern Mississippi.
