Woodward Archer, Medford Sports Hall of FameWoody attended Ashland Normal and served as principal of the Oak Grove school in the mid-thirties, then furthered his education and became a doctor, specializing in the digestive system.

Playing in the Medford High Tiger backfield in 1925, Woody was part of the powerhouse team that had a 9 – 0 season. That year, the Tigers scored 348 points and let opponents cross the goal line for a mere 33 points.

This was the fighting team that scored a massive 102 points against a Roseburg team that failed to cross the goal line even once. In the season finale, the Tigers beat Salem High for the Mythical State Championship by a score of 16 – 13.

Leaving the backfield for an end position the next year Woody was a factor in the team winning 9 games out of 9, and the team scored 328 big points to 31 for their opponents. Playing before 12,000 screaming fans in Multnomah stadium (the largest crowd in history to watch a high school championship game, the Tigers smashed Grant for the Mythical State Title. Turning Multnomah Stadium upside down the Tigers came away with a 24 – 6 victory.

Woody was named to the select All Time, All Star football team in 1931. He went on to the University of Oregon where he continued to shine as an outstanding end.
