Whitney Grant
Whitney Grant was born in Klamath Falls, Oregon and moved to Portland, shortly thereafter. Growing up as the middle child in a family of five, Whitney loved spending time with family, and her love for athletics developed at a young age because of the company she shared it with. At the age of eleven, she played on her first organized basketball-team, which her parents coached. Whitney’s family relocated to Central Point when she was 12. She played volleyball, softball, soccer, track, and basketball at the high school level and graduated from South Medford High School in 2002. She earned a full ride in basketball to the University of Portland., where she became a four-year starter at the point guard position. She completed her career at the University of Portland on the all-time list for first in minutes played with 3,845, second in three pointers made with 164, seventh in assists with 332, and twelfth in total points all I time with 1,138.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
- Wendy’s High School Reisman Semi-Finalist her senior year.
- International Sports Tours Award her junior year of high school.
- Team captain of track, soccer, and basketball teams for two years apiece.
- Selected to 2nd Team All-State Tournament for basketball her senior year.
- District Long Jump champion for three consecutive years.
- Track State Participant in long jump (three years), short relay (one year), long relay (one year).
- Voted Most Outstanding in track her Sr year; voted Most Inspirational in track for three years.
- School Long Jump record holder (broke her own record twice); made 1st team All-Conference in track for four years.
- Member of Southern Oregon Conference women’s team champions in track for one year.
- Received track Panther Award her senior year, given for dedication, hard work, attitude, inspiration, and excellence.
- Placed 8th in Long Jump at OSAA 4A track championships.
- “End of the Oregon Trail” All-Tournament Team the summer before her senior year of HS
- Named to the University of Oregon summer camp All-Star team the summer before her junior year of high school.
- Soccer MVP her sophomore year; made 2nd team All-Conference in soccer her senior year.
- Nominated to 1st team sportscasters All-Conference in basketball junior and senior year.
- Selected for basketball to 1st team All-Conference, senior year; 2nd team, junior year; 3rd team, sophomore year.
- South Medford single season assist record holder; best passer award for basketball; holds the career assist and steals records.
- Awarded MVP for varsity her senior year and for JV her freshman year.
- 2006 West Coast Conference First Team; awarded Team Most Inspiration Player, junior year; awarded MVP, senior year.
