Robert W. Wolcott, Medford Sports Hall of FameBobby was born in Huntington Beach, California on September 8, 1973. He began throwing a ball around at about three years of age. He only had access to right hand­ed gloves, which is why even though he is left-handed, he played baseball and pitched as a right-hander. After mov­ing to Medford in 1978, he continued to enjoy baseball and played in both Medford National and Medford American Little League programs as well as Babe Ruth (where he pitched a perfect game) and American Legion.  While at North Medford High, he helped the varsity baseball teams have winning records for three seasons from 1990-1992, posting a 22-3 pitching record with a 1.26 ERA over 163 innings with 232 strike outs from 1991 to 1992.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

  • 1991- SOC All-Star first team pitcher and utility honorable mention; selected and played on the Area Code Team for the Seattle Mariners
  • 1992 -January: received “Oregon State University Certificate of Honor” for outstanding academic achievement; April: received scholarship offer from Stanford University to play baseball; confirmed as member of the “Area Code Baseball Games” team to travel to Korea during September for the Good Will Series VII; May: received the Presidential Academic Fitness Award; selected as Gatorade Circle of Champions Oregon Baseball Player of the Year and Pacific Region Player of the Year; named to SOC Baseball All-Star First Team as a pitcher and Second Team as a hitter with a 459 batting average; selected to All-District Baseball team and Oregon High School AJJ-Star Baseball Series; June: named to USA Today’s 1992 All-USA High School Baseball Team Second Team; ranked 21 out of the top 100 prospects by Baseball America; drafted in the second round (#52 overall) of the Major League Baseball draft and signed by the Seattle.
  • 1992-93′ played 2 seasons with the the Mariner’s short A team with a record of 8-5.
  • 1994 Riverside long A team with a record of 14-8 and a short time in Calgary
  • 1995 Port City double A (Charleston, N. Carolina) with a record of7-3, Tacoma, WA triple A with a record of 6-3 and Seattle Mariners with a record of 3-2. He was named the Seattle Mariners Minor league pitcher of the year and was the winning pitcher of the first game of the ALCS, the first ALCS game in Mariner history.
  • After a second year with the Mariners, he was picked by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the expansion draft where he played for a year and then was traded to the Boston Red Sox. After that he played a year in Japan. He was picked up by the Oakland Ns, had shoulder surgery in 2001 and was released. He attended Southern Oregon University and Oregon State University, where he studied mechanical engineering.
