Lowell Dean, Medford Sports Hall of FameRon Weatherford, one of Medford’s leading educators, encouraged the Dean family to move to Medford. Lowell immediately fit into the Medford system and was outstanding in football, basketball and baseball. He is famous for the block he threw on 3 Jefferson players to spring Ken Durkee on his winning touchdown punt return in the 1959 championship game in Civic Stadium, Portland. Following the football and basketball championships, Lowell hit the winning home run in the state baseball championship game.

As a SOPHOMORE: 1st team All-Conference basketball and 1st team All-Conference baseball. JUNIOR YEAR: 1st team All-Conference football, 1st team Oregonian All State football,2nd team All-Conference basketball and 1st team All-Conference baseball. SENIOR YEAR: 1st team All-Conference foot­ball, 1st team Oregonian All State football, 4th team All American Wigwam football, State Shrine football team, 1st team All-Conference baseball and State All Star baseball team.

Lowell attended the University of Oregon and played freshman football, basket­ball and baseball. In 1961 he redshirted – 1962 Varsity football-2nd team, 1963 1st team varsity football, and 1964 Co-Captain East West Shrine and Hula Bowl; 1st team All Coast tackle, and last but not least, Lowell was named an Academic All American.
