Lee “Dub” Watson
Dub moved to Medford in 1911 when his parents, John and Exa Watson, opened a Tailor and Press shop in the basement of the Hotel Medford (later going into the dry-cleaning business on Riverside). Dub entered the army m 1916 and after four years of service, returned to Medford High to finish his schooling. He was active in all sports but enjoyed football the most.
Medford witnessed one of the most successful football seasons in history to that time, coming through undefeated and claiming its first championship in four years. Dub, at halfback, was the main cog on this Southern Oregon championship team. The Mail Tribune clipping announcing his selection to the All Time Tigers Mythical Eleven said, “Watson was a hard-playing, fast ball· carrier who could do all that was required of a halfback. He played in the post-war days when football teams were made up of many men back from the trenches.”
Dub and his brother bought their dad’s business during the mid-thirties and continued in the dry-cleaning business until the business was sold in the mid-fifties.
