Jeff Barry, Medford Sports Hall of FameBackground:

Jeff was raised in Medford where he excelled as a three-sport athlete at Medford Senior High School and South Medford High School.  Jeff went on to play baseball at San Diego University.  His professional career began in 1990 when he was drafted by the Montreal Expos.

Jeff continues to contribute to youth baseball in the Rogue Valley.  He has held clinics, coached travel teams, and operates a baseball hitting cage facility in the Rogue Valley teaching kids the fundamentals of the game.

Accomplishments:

  • 1985 – All State quarterback Medford Black Tornado
  • 1986 – basketball, defensive Player of the Year, Medford Black Tornado
  • 1986 – State runner-up, All-State outfielder, Medford Black Tornado
  •  1986 – All- State quarterback South Medford
  • 1987 – All-State DH, South Medford
  • Played in Oregon All-Star baseball in Australia
  • Played on West Junior Olympics baseball team in Houston, Texas tournament 1988-1990 – San Diego State baseball, ALL-WAC outfielder, freshman of the year, freshman All-Region; freshman All-American; sophomore All-WAC; sophomore All-American 2nd team; junior All-WAC junior pre-season Player of the Year; junior All-Region; junior All-American 2nd team
  • 1990 – Drafted in 4th round by Montreal Expos
  • Played four seasons in Mets Organization and got called up to Majors in 1995
  •  Traded to San Diego Padres
  • 1997 Traded as a free agent with the Colorado Rockies; called to Majors in 1998-99
  • Played for the Chiba Lotte Marines of the Japan League
  • Played a total of 13 years pro baseball with 3 years in Majors
  • The only position player from Medford to make it to the Major Leagues.
