Fitz Brewer, Medford Sports Hall of FameAffectionately known by his classmates as “Mr. Football”, Fitz Brewer began his football career at Roosevelt Elementary School in the third grade and played 10 years for Medford schools. A 1949 graduate of Medford Senior High School, he was the only unanimous se­ lection All-Conference player in the SOC as voted by the Medford Mail Tribune Sports Department. He also was the recipient of the POP GATES AWARD in 1948. he participated in the first annual Shrine All-Star football game. The FIRST Shrine GAME BALL, signed by the players, was brought back to Medford by Fitz Brewer and is now on display with other Sports Hall of Fame memorabilia.

Fitz was rewarded with a 4-year football scholarship to the University of Oregon where he played for two years before he was inter­rupted by the Korean War. He graduated from the U of O and entered the business world. Returning to Medford in 1960 he became active in the community and supported local athletic boosters. In 1970 he became Program director of the Medford Linebackers and served as President in 1971. He was chairman of the fundraising effort to construct the first all- weather track in Medford that was named in honor of Bill Bowerman. He was active in soliciting funds for resurfacing the field at Spiegelberg Stadium and was lead promotor that raised the money to build Newland Track at Spiegelberg Stadium.

Fitz is a past President of the Southern Oregon Duck Club, was the National President of the University Alumni Association and since 1984, has been on the Board of Trustees of the University of Oregon Foundation.
