Edson Corlies “Jerry” Jerome
Jerry was not an active participant in sports as a player. He was, however, a very enthusiastic supporter and fan. For almost 35 years he was Timekeeper for all Medford Senior High Football games. He was a well-known figure along the sidelines. His proudest possession was a Letterman Sweater presented to him; each sleeve was covered with stripes representing the years he had kept the all-important time at the football games.
After Jerry was replaced by mechanization, he faithfully attended the games. When he could no longer attend games, due to poor health, he followed his Medford team games, at home or on the road by radio. He, as a member of the Hilah Shrine (Past Potentate) was also a strong supporter of the Shrine’s East – West game in San Francisco. He was an avid and faithful fan whose first love was his “Medford” teams.
When visiting games of that era, a mental picture automatically enters your mind – two football teams on the field and the man with the stopwatch on the sidelines wearing the sweater with a new stripe added each year.
