Dave Potter, Medford Sports Hall of FameBackground:

Dave was born on June 30, 1950, in Madison Wisconsin. Dave was a 3-sport athlete, graduating from LaFolette High school in 1968. He attended the University of Wisconsin where he wrestled. Dave, Karen, and family moved to Medford to accept a teaching position at Lone Pine Elementary. In 1981, Dave became a volunteer wrestling coach at Medford Senior High School after 8 years as the JV and Varsity assistant wrestling coach at Janesville Craig HS in Wisconsin. In 1984, he started coaching soccer with the Rogue Valley Soccer Club in a recreation program, continuing to the present day. In 1991 he became the boys’ JV coach in soccer at North Medford. From 1992-1997 he was the girls’ varsity coach at South Medford taking over the boys’ varsity in 1998. From 2007 to present day, Dave is the head girls’ soccer coach at St. Mary’s HS in Medford.

Dave retired from teaching in 2011 but continues working with youth in soccer programs.

Accomplishments:

  • 1989 to present- coaching competitive soccer for the Rogue Valley Soccer Club
  • 1990 earned United States Soccer Federation D-license
  • 2003 OSAA Champion 4A Boys’ Soccer State Championship (earned 8 district titles in girls’ and boys’ soccer at SMHS from 1992-2004)
  • 1993 earned United States Soccer Federation National B- license.
  • 1994 to present- Staff Instructor for Oregon Youth Soccer Association
  • 1996 to present- Facilitate and coach USYSA/RVSC TOP Soccer
  • OSAA Semi-Finalist in 2009 and 2011 St. Mary’s girls’ soccer
  • OSSA Finalist in 2010 St. Mary’s girls’ soccer
  • 2010 to present- Coach Oregon Olympic Development Soccer
  • 2010 Southern Cascade League Girls’ Soccer Coach of the Year
  • 2010-2011 RVSC Competitive Girls’ Coach of the Year
  • 2011 Coach of the Year 3A/2A/1A Special District for Girls’ soccer
