Claude Reese “Shorty” Miles

Claude Reese "Shortly" Miles, Medford Sports Hall of FameShorty played on numerous teams in the early 1900’s in Medford then played one year of Pro-Baseball in Montana.

His ballpark on Portland Avenue in Medford was the focal point for many young people who started their baseball in that neighborhood facility. He promoted youth baseball by pushing for a county facility that is not named in his honor, “Miles Field”, located south of the Armory. He spent numerous hours working on the field, watering, raking, and mowing so the legion teams in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s would have a field to play on.

Shorty was a member of the Medford Linebacker’s and a very familiar sight at all Medford athletic events for many years until his death in 1970 at the age of 84.
