Bruce Howell

Bruce Howell, Medford Sports Hall of FameBruce Howell graduated from Grants Pass High School in 1965 as a 3-sport letterman (football, basketball and track).  After graduating from SOC, where he played basketball, he began his educational career as a Physical Education teacher and coach for sophomore football, freshmen basketball, and track in the Medford School District. In 1986 at the new South Medford High, he was the Physical Educa­tion instructor and varsity football assistant, freshman basketball, and head girls’ varsity track coach.  In 1990 he became the Medford School District Supervisor of Secondary Athletics until his retirement in 2004.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

  • 1986-1990 Physical Education (strength/conditioning) Coach South Medford HS
  • 1990-1991 South Medford High School Athletic Director & Interim District Coordinator of Secondary Education
  • 1990-2004 Medford School District Supervisor of Secondary Athletics
  • 2-time recipient of COSAA (Confederation of School Administers) as Central Office Administrator of the Year at the State level
  • 14-year School District representative on the YMCA Youth Sports Board
  • Developed a District philosophy of an organizational system and standards that pro­vided consistent support of athletic instruction
  • Maintained a close cost control, while growing the number of competing teams in the District and had a surplus of funds at retirement
