Robert Stuart Watson, Medford Sports Hall of FameBob, or “Bobbie”, as I recall him, was voted “Outstanding Athlete” of the graduating class of 1946. Under the coaching of Al Simpson, he was named to the basketball 2nd team All-State in 1945 and to the 1st team in 1946. He was selected to play in the Portland All-Star baseball game in Portland in 1945.  As Coach Simpson’s football teams were State Champions in 1945 and reached the semifinals in 1946, Bob was selected to the Southern Oregon All-Conference teams both years.

Playing football for UCLA, Bob lettered three years and set place kicking records that held for over 20 years. Bob was captain of the 1950 team under Coach Red Sanders. As assistant football coach at Oregon State University of Utah University of Iowa and Cornell University, his teams played in the Rose Bowl in 1957, the Liberty Bowl in 1962, and the Liberty Bowl again in 1964.
