George Francis Dames, Medford Sports Hall of FameGeorge was an unsung high school linebacker who by hard work, sheer determination, and inspirational play became All Coast and All-American nose guard at the University of Oregon as a “walk-on”. He was voted most improved player in 1966 and most valuable player in 1968. George served as president. of the University of Oregon Fellowship of Christian Athletes and State Representative for Fellowship of Christian Athletes 1969-71 during his off season of football.

He played with the 49ers in both the 1970 and 1971 exhibition seasons travelling with the team as a taxi squad member in 1970. After the 1970 exhibitions he joined the University of Southern California freshman coaching staff as an assistant defensive line coach 1971-72. George is now serving as a volunteer defensive coordinator for the Medford High School Black Tornado football team.

The success of George Dames on the athletic field and in his community may long serve as a role model for youth now and in the future.
