Bill, whose father before him, and sons and grandsons after him, all started in Medford athletics. Spanning a 50-year period, the four generations of Singlers’ have earned their place in the Medford Sports Hall of Fame.  Another note of interest; all were born in Medford.

Medford dominated the state during 1944-1946 football season, winning 29 games, losing two, and one tie. Under coach Al Simpson, Medford was undefeated in 1944, winning the State Title. In 1945, the Tornado only lost one game to Grant in the Semi’s, 7-6. In 1946 under coach Bill Bowerman, again lost one game, in the state semi-finals. Playing at half-back and hindered by injury in four games. Bill scored 11 T. Ds in 1946. A Eureka News flash that year, “Be on the lookout for halfback, Bill Singler, who is reported to be the greatest broken-field runner of Oregon”.

The 1945 and 1946 Basketball teams were district Champions, placing 3^rd in the State Tournament both years. As a junior, Bill crashed the starting lineup and his first game scored 20 points against Klamath Falls to lead the Tornado to victory.

Under coach Bill Bowerman, Bill was District Champion in the 200 years low hurdles in 1946-1947, and State Champion, 1947. He came home from the Hayward Relays as Suttle Hurdles Champion in 1946-1947 and set school record with 22.9 and district record with 22.9 (state record was 22.8).

Bill went on to serve as Mayor of Medford from 1968-72′.
