Ed Bingham, Medford Sports Hall of FameName a sport and chances are that Ed Bingham has excelled in it.

A product of the Medford School System, Ed enjoyed all athletics, starting at Washington School. He advanced to McLoughlin Junior High and then on to outstanding achievements at Medford High School and the Class of ’53.

That year Ed was basketball team captain and the number one scorer in the district. His season average was 17.4 per game and he ranked top scorer in Southern Oregon and as one of the tops in the State. He averaged 13 rebounds per game.

In Ed’s senior year, he was the top javelin thrower at Medford High and the year before, he came within a fourth inch of breaking the all-time high jump records. Ed was president of the Order of the “M” at Medford High School.

When the Black Tornado track team captured their ninth state track and field crown in 1953, Ed achieved high point honors, giving the Tornado 20 points by winning in two events, high jumping and javelin.

Ed’s senior track accomplishments landed him on the 1953 All-American Track-Field Squad and earned him a scholarship at the University of Oregon. He continued his distinguished athletic career at Oregon in both varsity basketball and track.

Climaxing his many athletic achievements was his selection as a member of the U.S. Air Force World-Wide track team from 1957 to 1959.

In another sports dimension, Ed was named Southern Oregon Pin fare Bowler of the Year for the 1964-65 season.

In 1968, Ed hung up his variety of sports shoes when he sustained an injury in an industrial acci­dent. He continued his great interest in all Southern Oregon sport developments.
